Adopt-A-Stream Program :: Litter Pickup Print E-mail
Litter Pickup
An amazing amount of garbage finds its way into the waterways in and around town. The only way that this garbage is removed, is by volunteers like you. Here’s how (and remember, you can do this as a Stream Team):
  1. Choose a section of stream close to your home or business or a section that you frequent while fishing, canoeing, boating or just lunching. You will register this section as “your” section on the Adopt-A-Stream, Litter Pickup agreement form. While making your decision on an appropriate section to adopt, consider if you will be constrained to walking in or along the waterway to gather the garbage or if you will have access to a boat or canoe.

  2. Decide how many times a year you can commit to clean this section of waterway. A minimum of two times per year is asked.

  3. Just prior to your clean-up day, you will pick up plastic bags and gloves at the Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District Office at 590 University Avenue, Suite C.

  4. You will be responsible for bringing all garbage that you remove from your Adopt-A-Stream section to the closest transfer station or to the local landfill.

  5. If large objects are found, too large to remove by hand, email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to give a description of the object and a precise location so efforts can be made to remove the object(s) with the appropriate equipment.

  6. Read over the CONTRACT AGREEMENT and SAFETY GUIDELINES. If you agree to all conditions of the agreement and safety guidelines, please download and fill out the agreement form. We will need a signed copy of the form so please print the form, sign it and mail it to TVWA, P.O. Box 84104, Fairbanks, AK 99708.

  7. See you on the river!!!!
